Renault would like more clarity on the Ferrari engine affair

While the 2020 season is still suspended due to the coronavirus, the year 2019 remains remembered at the expense of Ferrari. The Italian team was in the spotlight following a confidential agreement with the FIA last year when its engine was suspected of being illegal in terms of technical regulations. The World Council in March subsequently expressed its support and strongly opposed comments from rival teams demanding explanations.

Cyril Abiteboul, Director of Renault Sport Racing nevertheless maintained its position.

"It's something that goes back to the previous world, but we'll still have to rule on this matter at some point.", he commented on the official website of the F1. We live in a world where everything is open. We do not question the processes, we simply want to understand what happened. We want to know the problem at the legal level in order to avoid similar problems. »

Cyril Abiteboul is all the more well placed to demand clarification on the subject as his brand is also an engine manufacturer.

“I myself work for an engine manufacturer and I want to make sure that my engine does not pose legal problems, but I don't believe so, added the Frenchman. But it only makes sense if the rules and decisions are clear to all participants and that is what we are asking for. We do not want to change what has been done. We want to know so we can move forward. »
