Renault wants Racing Point to lose all of its points

While awaiting the verdict of the FIA International Court of Appeal in the Racing Point brake duct saga, the various parties continue to comment on the matter in public.

Renault, who contests the sanction imposed on the Silverstone team by the stewards last week, believes that the former Force India structure should be downgraded from all the races where the Losange filed a complaint against its brake ducts.

Racing Point was fined 400 euros and lost 000 points in the Manufacturer standings following the results of the Styrian GP (August 15-10), the scene of the first protest filed by Renault.

The French manufacturer also filed a complaint against the RP20s in Hungary and at Silverstone but the pink team only received reprimands for the occasion.

Racing Point was found guilty of breaching the sporting regulations, because it did not design the scoops of the RP20 itself, but in compliance with the technical specifications since the designs are legal.

« We expected a sanction consistent with past decisions, said Cyril Abiteboul from Barcelona. Last year at Suzuka we were found guilty of non-compliance with the sporting regulations, not the technical regulations, and yet we were excluded from the meeting and lost all our points.

There was no reduced sentence for Renault. I don't see why there would be any for Racing Point. They should lose the points collected on all the events where we complained.

After each weekend of competition, Otmar (Szafnauer, CEO of Racing Point) will be summoned to the stewards, his brake ducts will be declared identical to those used since the start of the season and he will receive a reprimand. The scenario will repeat itself more than ten times.

We would like there to be clarification on this situation, without saying that we want them to be excluded from the championship.

It's a bit of a strange situation and difficult to explain to fans who see a team being reprimanded and in violation allowed to compete. We just want to close this story once and for all ».

We will remember that the Renault single-seaters were downgraded from the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix because they used a brake distribution system deemed automatic. Originally, there was a complaint filed by… Racing Point based on information transmitted by a defector from Renault.

Ferrari and Racing Point also appealed the stewards' decision, the Team for reasons similar to Renault, the pink team because it considers that it has not committed any violation of the regulations.
