Ricciardo is 'a very good teacher' for Verstappen: Horner

Author since the first race in Australia of one error per weekend, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) is in an uncomfortable situation before starting the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. The Dutchman faced a lot of criticism from former drivers (“Max is not as good as Daniel” for Jacques Villeneuve) or even in his clan.

Thus, in Monaco after an accident in free practice, Helmut Marko, Motorsport consultant for Red Bull, expressed his impatience. Christian Horner explained that“a different approach would be beneficial.”

The British Team Principal made it clear on Tuesday by declaring on the official F1 website that he would do better to take inspiration from his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. The latter won two events in 2018 (China and Monaco) and made no blunders. “He has a very good teacher in the other car in the garage.

Max has enormous talent but he is experiencing hard lessons this year. He is aware of it. We talk every week. Of course, what frustrates him is that he's working harder than ever when it seems like he's pushing a little too hard at the moment. »

Max Verstappen, only 20 years old, is already in his fourth season of F1. “Max arrived in F1 very quickly, so he is learning in a very exposed environment and what's more, he is racing in a team at the forefront”, continues Christian Horner.

“Most of the pilots have experienced this phase in the promotional formulas that you may not have observed, while they must face public expectation”, tries to justify the team manager.

In the Drivers' Championship, Max Verstappen is in 6th place (35 points), and is 37 points behind Daniel Ricciardo (3rd).
