Ricciardo and Renault returned to “a known base”

After a complicated Austrian Grand Prix, the two R.S.19s seem to have found a completely different dynamic on British soil, with 7th place for Daniel Ricciardo in qualifying, Nico Hulkenberg rising to 10th position.

A double entry into Q3 which, according to Ricciardo, validates the recent choices of Renault regarding the development of its car.“This reversal of the situation after Austria is clearly encouraging, specifies the former pilot Red Bull.

There was work to be done and getting this done in just over a week is good for the team. This gives them confidence that the car can work.

We took developments to France, and tried to push them into Austria. It was a bit far from anything conventional. Before France, we had accumulated good results and I felt confident with the car.

We tried them again in Austria, pushing them a little further. We came back to certain things this weekend, to find a known base, which is why we are more confident.

Some developments have remained, others not. This happens and it can be frustrating for the team because the work accomplished has been significant in the wind tunnel and in CFD.

When it doesn't work it can be frustrating, but sometimes you have to accept it and go back. This was happening at Red Bull...I'm not saying nothing was useful but not everything worked as planned.

Developments are always good to take, but this has improved the car in certain aspects but given some problems in others. It's not black or white. »

Ricciardo admits to not having doubted the abilities of his team from the first laps of the wheel on Friday, despite a complicated day at Silverstone. It remains to be seen whether the two yellow single-seaters will be able to come and tease the McLaren.

“We weren't competitive on Friday afternoon, but I knew there was time to get easily on several elements,” analyzes the Australian. I knew we were going to improve on Saturday, and have a good chance for Q3.

Since the first lap on Saturday morning, I had a good feeling and I felt that we were going in the right direction. On paper, it's not a track that suits us with the fast corners, which would be more for McLaren. I think we are a bit of an underdog. »
