What will the future be like? Daniel Ricciardo ? Shelved by McLaren one before the end of his contract, the Australian is currently without a solution. With seats becoming a rare commodity, the man with 8 Grand Prix victories is aware that finding a place on the grid next season will be very difficult. A situation which will perhaps push him to leave the world of F1 for a year before returning in 2024.
« When I tell you that I don't know, it's because I don't have a contract for next year, said Daniel Ricciardo, guest on the Fitzy and Wippa show on Australian radio Nova. Could this happen (not finding a steering wheel) ? Yes it's possible. But I'm not really thinking about next season. I obviously want to race, be on the grid, compete but I don't see next year as a last opportunity for me.
Naturally, I want to remain attentive to all possible options regarding 2024. This is where I am. If that means taking one step back and then taking two steps forward... That's what my entourage and I are considering right now. So yes, I could be away for a year. »
Deadlocked for 2023, Daniel Ricciardo could therefore wait a year before returning to the world of F1. An idea that is in its “ mind currently » while at McLaren, it's his compatriot Oscar Piastri who will take over.
