Ricciardo: “I want to fight for the championship in 2024! »

Zack Brown was clear about this a few weeks ago, McLaren will no longer have any excuse not to play for the title in 2024. The boss of the Woking-based team was referring to the new infrastructure that the British will benefit from at full capacity in the seasons to come. This statement did not fall on deaf ears since Daniel Ricciardo, under contract until 2023 with McLaren, has said he wants to fight for the title from 2024.

“The team is on a good trajectory even if there are still some details that risk keeping us away from the title fight for another two years I would say, expressed the Australian pilot. For my part, I just want to improve. I'm with McLaren for the next few years and I really hope to be in the battle for the drivers' championship in 2024. It may sound crazy to say that now but sometimes you have to think like that. »

The 32-year-old Australian, however, is in great difficulty with his mount this season. The gap in the ranking of the drivers with their teammate Lando Norris is not to the advantage of the native of Perth since he is 63 points behind.

“With age, I gain maturity and I will be more capable of managing a championship in the long term than when I was younger. But at the moment I have to work on my current level and understanding the car. »

In 2024, Daniel Ricciardo will be 35 years old, the same age as when Lewis Hamilton won his 7th world championship title at the Turkish Grand Prix.
