Ricciardo: Red Bull helps you avoid overdriving

Daniel Ricciardo confirmed that he had not taken all the risks to win his second pole in the streets of the Principality in Monaco. After being the fastest in each practice session and during the qualifying sessions, the Australian secured first position on the grid with more than two tenths ahead of Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), his closest adversary.

“We knew we had a good package since the start of testing. You have to attack, but there is no need to overdrive. Just get your bearings and stay clean behind the wheel.”, commented the pole sitter who saw his teammate Max Verstappen make a mistake during the last practice session, condemning the Dutchman from the back of the grid.

Daniel Ricciardo hopes to add the Monaco GP to his record after narrowly losing victory in 2016 where he also started from pole.

“We were competitive in every session, a bit like 2016, remembered Daniel Ricciardo. We knew we had a chance to fight for pole coming here after seeing how the cars were performing in the first races (of the season). I knew that my first timed lap was not bad and I had the feeling that it could be enough. We don't have as much power (as our opponents) in qualifying, but it was enough here. »

Daniel Ricciardo has never won another qualifier in F1 elsewhere than in Monaco.
