Ricciardo not surprised by his pace in Singapore

Daniel Ricciardo was the benchmark during this first day of testing for the Singapore GP. The pilot Red Bull set the lap record on the Marina Bay circuit during the first two sessions while the Anglo-Austrian team placed its two RB13s at the forefront this evening as Max Verstappen was the closest to the Australian.

The latter claims not to have been surprised by the hierarchy where the Red Bulls precede the Mercedes and Ferrari on the Marina Bay street circuit where aero downforce is high and the difference in engine performance is reduced.

“I expected it to be honest, admitted Daniel Ricciardo on Sky Sports. I knew we were coming with a good car and I felt prepared. We need to make sure we stay on pace tomorrow. I really think we can maintain this position throughout the weekend. »

Daniel Ricciardo could be all the more confident as Scuderia Ferrari was behind with the SF70Hs of Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel around two seconds off the benchmark, although the four-time world champion was unable to put in a clear lap on his ultra-soft tires.

“Seb was in the mix during FP1 and I think we will have to count on Ferrari. It should be close tomorrow, but we should be able to maintain the advantage”, said Daniel Ricciardo.
