Ricciardo didn't give up for victory in 2016

To Red Bull Racing, as for Ferrari, the Singapore Grand Prix constituted one of the best opportunities to break the domination of Mercedes. The world champion team nevertheless sent a strong signal to its rivals, Nico Rosberg coming to win on the Marina Bay Circuit, and thus erasing the 2015 performance of the Silver Arrows.

Rosberg's victory, if it remains logical over the whole weekend, seemed for a time in the balance, Daniel Ricciardo, taking advantage of a three-stop strategy and a final ride on super-softs, to threaten the German to the end, new leader of the championship.

“This is not the first time this season that victory has narrowly escaped us, explains the Australian. We have come very close on several occasions, but I cannot be disappointed.

I think we gave Mercedes a hell of a response last weekend. We tried a strategic move at the end, and we failed with one breath […] It was fun! I pushed and I knew I was going to be close to him in the last few laps. »

A somewhat frustrating second place for the Red Bull driver, but who does not intend to give up on his first success in 2016. « I'm all about 2016. I want a victory by the end of the season, admitted Ricciardo. In the dry, it was probably our last chance. But the rain is helping us, we will have other opportunities. »
