Ricciardo didn't think he would do so well in Shanghai

Daniel Ricciardo took first place on the grid at the Chinese Grand Prix by being closest to the pole sitter Lewis Hamilton with a good half-second delay. The Australian will have the opportunity to put his missed podium in Melbourne behind him once and for all by racing ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel who lost by five tenths in the rain on the Shanghai circuit. “I think we can be very happy with what we have achieved. I struggled during the session and I didn't think I could fight at the front in these conditions. But I was able to do a little more with the last set of intermediate tires passed in Q3 and achieve a good time. I'm pretty happy to be on the front line. »

If you feel like you want to take the Red Bull seem to be less behind on a wet track compared to the Mercedes, Daniel Ricciardo nevertheless believes that a podium is possible if the weather remains dry. “I think we will be able to fight at the front even if it is dry. I may have to lower my head on the straights like in karting ! In any case, we hope to fight for at least a podium. The strategy will certainly be played out over two or three stops. It looks to be tight as a two-stop strategy could come in handy. »

The start of the Chinese Grand Prix will be given tomorrow at 9 a.m. French time. Photos of the tests can be found on this link.
