Ricciardo: “No strict rules to the point of discouraging us from racing”

Coming to dive inside Daniel Ricciardo at the very end of the race at turn n°3 of the Red Bull Rings, Lance stroll (RacingPoint) had not only ensured the gain of a position in the standings, but attracted the wrath of the driver Renault.

The latter considered that the maneuver of the Canadian pilot would have deserved a sanction, Stroll clearly not taking the turn within the limits of the track and forcing Ricciardo to cut his momentum to avoid making contact. However, the Grand Prix commissioners found nothing to complain about the episode.

“I left space, which I shouldn’t have done, recalled Ricciardo yesterday in Hungary. But he took a chance and because we both went out, I see it as a failed attempt, so the place should have been returned.

If he had taken the corner and tackled me, I would have accepted that it was an overtake. But we're both dating, I don't see how that works in any situation. We will talk about this in the pilot briefing and see everyone's opinion, what they say.

I never wanted to have strict rules that discouraged us from running. I don't want us to be rolling on eggshells and afraid to pull the trigger, but there's trying and failing too. »

One of the many adventures that involved Renault and Racing Point last weekend in Austria, the French brand wearing complaint after arrival on the respect of the sporting regulations by the training of Otmar Szafnauer, guilty according to the Losange of using non-compliant brake ducts in view of the regulations.
