Ricciardo unconvinced by the new Renault V6

Si the latest evolution of the Power Unit Renault, after the use of eleven of the twelve tokens remaining at the disposal of the French engine manufacturer, had been available for several weeks, the Brazilian Grand Prix marks the first entry into action of the Losange block on the Red Bull de Daniel Ricciardo.

The Australian was, however, beaten by his teammate Daniil Kvyat during the qualifying exercise, the latter not benefiting from this advanced Power Unit. « I don't regret testing it because we had to see if there are any positives, if what they saw on the bench can be reproduced on the track. » comments Ricciardo, who immediately admits on the discipline's website that he does not feel any real differences with the old specification.

« We must try different paths if we continue together next year. In the long run, we could be better with what we have learned. From what I've seen, there's nothing that would suggest it performs better in racing. But make no mistake: even though we didn't gain any time on a lap today, I'm sure Renault learned something. There will be benefits to having evolved with this evolution. »

Daniel Ricciardo will start from 19th position, following a penalty of ten places imposed for the use of this new engine. The Brazilian Grand Prix will begin this Sunday at 17 p.m. French time.
