Ricciardo: Renault can be a solution

Red Bull seeming to be at an impasse with Mercedes et Ferrari, the latest speculations in the Sochi paddock evoke a contract extension with Renault. This scenario, improbable just a few weeks ago as relations between the Austrian team and the French engine manufacturer had deteriorated, could well be the only solution for the Red Bull to remain involved in F1.

Daniel Ricciardo believes that this option could be a good choice, provided that Renault makes progress on its Power Unit. “I want to be on the grid, but I might not want it anymore if it was to move up to 16th place. If they can come up with something better than this season that would allow us to fight higher up the peloton, this would then be one of the best options available to us », declared the Australian in the Russian GP paddock.

Red Bull would have refused the proposal from Scuderia Ferrari to evolve in 2016 with Power Units from the current season, while Mercedes would have refused to power the Austrian team. The management of the Red Bull raised during the season the possibility of leaving the discipline if it was unable to find an interesting option.
