Ricciardo wants to taste 'champagne' with Renault in 2020

« Champagne », the swear word is dropped by Daniel Ricciardo. Renault hasn't tasted it as a factory team for 10 years, since 3rd place in Fernando Alonso at the 2009 Singapore Grand Prix.

Bubbles, the Australian knows the scent with 29 finishes in the Top 3 at Red Bull Racing, including 7 victories. By joining the stable ofenstone, the native of Perth suspected that he would not get back on the box straight away but the diet without champagne is undoubtedly starting to take its toll. For his second campaign with Renault, Ricciardo has set the course and it must bring him closer to the front of the peloton.

« When I signed with them, the goal was to climb on the podium, at least once, in 2020, said Ricciardo from Interlagos. We're still a little far from that but McLaren proved this year that a good offseason can allow you to make significant progress.

If we manage to have a solid and studious winter, it is not impossible to have a chance to fight for this goal next year. Afterwards, whether we manage to savor the champagne or not, we at least want to get closer to the three big cars on the field and give them a hard time ».

Before turning to 2020, there are two Grands Prix remaining this season and a 5th place in the Manufacturers' standings to be validated for Renault, which remains in two convincing races in Mexico and then in the United States.

« We want to continue our current momentum and end the season on a good note, added Ricciardo. This is important for motivating the troops during the winter. We didn't manage to put together any big performances this year, there was always something to hinder us. If we can finish strong, the momentum can carry over into the offseason and help us achieve our goals. ».

Renault is currently 18 points ahead of Racing Point and 19 compared to Toro Rosso
