Rio Haryanto will reportedly benefit from support from the Indonesian government to become a regular driver for Manor F1 Team in 2016.

Rio Haryanto candidate at Manor

While Pascal Wehrlein still waiting to hear if he will make his F1 debut with Manor in 2016, a new candidate emerges to occupy the position of titular pilot. According to national media, Rio Haryanto would benefit from financial support from Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi to the tune of 15 million euros to obtain the shuttlecock.

Stephen Fitzpatrick, the owner of Manor F1 Team, would have received a guarantee from the Indonesian sports ministry. Indonesian CNN said that Rio Haryanto and his parents met Imam Nahwari.

Rio Haryanto took fourth place in the GP2 Series standings this season while playing for Campos Racing. The Indonesian took part in F1 post-season testing with Manor at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
