Rob Smedley new consultant for F1

We have known since last November that Rob smedley had left Williams Racing after a final season within the stable of Whole grained, where he started in 2014 by joining the driver he has been in charge of for a long time: Felipe Massa.

However, no information was given on the future of the British engineer, who has been responsible for vehicle performance at Williams in recent seasons.

It will ultimately be good F1 that we will find Smedley, but at a consultant and technical expert position on behalf of the discipline and its owners Liberty Media.

“During our conversations with Ross Brawn (Director Motor Sports of Liberty Media), we both argued that this environment, very rich in technical content, in data, in the functioning of teams, had in reality never been told, relates Smedley.

And that's part of the history of Formula 1. The paying public, the Formula 1 fans, never get the chance to see it, or very little. So we have the opportunity to do that at some level.

It was known that I had made the decision to spend some time away from the teams. But I still have a burning passion for Formula 1 and I hope this is a way for me to give back a little to the sport, to explain what I have learned over the last twenty years in Formula 1, as an engineer and for the viewer.

Not just about the technical or operational side, but also about the human side. What this means for all the women and men who work in Formula 1 and dedicate their lives to it. »

Rob Smedley should thus appear on the discipline's programs, on all existing platforms to date.
