Rob White admits teams could exceed engine quota

The teams powered by the V6 turbo/hybrids of Renault Sport F1 could have a new sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. Indeed, Rob White, boss of engines at Viruses, declared in the columns of Auto Motor und Sport that certain formations could exceed the five Power Units authorized per season according to the new 2014 regulations.

“During the first tests, we were dropped. We were in the middle of a crisis
, White explains. But we didn't panic. We have established a plan to close the gap. Since then we have made great progress, but certainly not enough. And in some teams, more components were used than expected. It will be complicated for these formations to stay within the five engines authorized for this year. »

Remember that the 2014 Power Units are made up of six modules: thermal engine, MGU-H, MGU-K, energy storage elements, turbo and electronic control unit. A quota of five units per element is authorized per season and per pilot. In the event of overtaking, a penalty of 10 places on the next starting grid is imposed.
