The Thursday press conference in Monaco was an opportunity for Robert Fernley, Deputy Team Principal of Force India, to express reservations regarding the functioning of the Strategic Group of the F1.
« We have 18 months or two years of work from the Strategic Group and nothing has come of it. I don't think you should have the teams making decisions about where Formula 1 should go." explains Fernley, who believes that everything has so far failed, particularly regarding cost reduction.
Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull, admits for his part that the FIA and the FOM should regain more weight in decisions. “ Each team has its own agenda and will fight for its own interest. I think the sport is managed by the FIA and promoted by the FOM. I think Bernie (Ecclestone) and Jean (Todt) need to come together and say “this is what we want for sport, this is how it should be governed”, then give us the registration form and see if we want to participate or not. » Franz Tost, Team Principal of Toro Rosso also joined his counterpart on the subject.
The Strategy Group recently met in Great Britain (attended by F1 Executive Director Bernie Ecclestone, FIA President Jean Todt, plus teams Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Williams, McLaren and Force India) and had made several proposals for the future of the discipline.
