Robert Kubica: “Not being in the same situation as in 2017”

Many saw him as the second pilot Williams Martini Racing alongside Lance stroll for 2018, but Robert Kubica had seen Sergey Sirotkin preferred late by the Grove management for this season.

And while the training of Franl Williams has been very scrutinized recently for the allocation of one of the last seats available for 2019, the Pole wants things to be decided quickly.

" Hurry up, admits the former pilot Renault at Sky Sports F1. I don't want to be in the same situation as last year. Hopefully a decision will be made soon. The goal is to be on the grid next year but I can't wait until December.

We will have to wait, but for sure in the next few weeks everything should be decided, at least from my side. »

In the "fight" for the second seat of Williams alongside the young Briton George Russell, recently confirmed, Kubica must notably face Sergey Sirotkin, current holder, and having certain financial support, but also Esteban Ocon.

The Frenchman, who will not be retained by Racing Point Force India in favor of Lance Stroll, can in particular count on the support of Mercedes, engine manufacturer for the Williams team.

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, admitted on the sidelines of the Austin, Texas event this weekend that the team was working to try to recruit the Frenchman. The end of Robert Kubica's hopes for 2019?

The Pole has not competed in a Grand Prix since the Abu Dhabi 2010 event, a few weeks before his serious accident in rally.
