Rome, the alternative to Monza?

Will the Rome Grand Prix see the light of day? The subject has been debated in the press for almost 18 months now, with the mayor of Rome insisting on bringing the F1 in the streets of the Italian capital. This week, the Italian newspaper La Repubblica specified that Bernie Ecclestone had written to the mayor of Rome his wish to have only one Grand Prix per country. Ferrari also supported this argument a few weeks ago.

But Gianni Alemanno, mayor of Rome, wanted to clarify that this letter was not a rejection of the Grand Prix project in the Eur (southern part of Rome affected by the project). “There is a decision to keep only one Grand Prix per country, either Monza or Rome, or both alternately,” he explained to the Italian press.

Despite the opposition of the Romans, despite the lack of enthusiasm from the world of F1 and especially from Ferrari and despite the arrival of new countries in the race to organize Grands Prix, the mayor of Rome does not give up. A “final decision” should soon be made regarding this project, which has dragged on for several months.
