Ron Dennis: “F1 is a cyclical discipline”

With only 27 points scored in 2015, McLaren finished penultimate in the Manufacturers' Championship, ahead of only Manor F1 Team which did not register a single top ten. The first year of the new partnership with Honda was a difficult period for the Woking outfit which suffered from reliability problems and disappointing performances.

Ron Dennis, the president of McLaren Group, nevertheless recalled the official F1 website that the history of the discipline has been marked by similar situations for the teams playing at the forefront. " When Michael Schumacher won the title in 2000, it was the first coronation of Ferrari since Jody Scheckter who won 21 years ago. "It's a special example, but we all know what happened next: Ferrari won the titles from 2001 to 2004."

The Brit cites many rival teams having gone through a similar journey such as Red Bull ou Mercedes. “F1 is a cyclical discipline. Success is difficult to achieve. Some teams never get there. Sauber has been playing for more than 20 years without having scored a single victory... I have the greatest respect for all these teams and I hope the reciprocal is true... I don't think our approach was bad. It always takes time for things to work. »
