Rosberg beats Hamilton to pole in Brazil

The rain will not have disrupted qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, where the short Interlagos track often offers small gaps. THE Mercedes remained the fastest and it was once again Nico Rosberg who took pole, his tenth of the season, after setting a lap in 1'10"023. Lewis Hamilton was nevertheless on the same pace as his teammate since the Championship leader lost by only 33 thousandths. Mercedes takes a front row on the grid for the 11th time this year.

The Williams were also successful since the Grove team monopolizes the second row with Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas two tenths of the reference. THE McLaren are also in good shape since Jenson Button is in fifth position, even if the Briton is lagging behind the first two rows with already nine tenths behind. Sebastian Vettel found a gain in form by positioning himself in sixth place, between the two McLarens, and by a tenth ahead of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian was ranked between the Ferrari de Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen who chose to only make one attempt in Q3, being the first driver more than a second from pole.

Sauber is not doing too badly since Esteban Gutiérrez failed to reach the top ten, Nico Hulkenberg placing himself between the two future ex-drivers of the teamHinwil. Daniil Kvyat did not take part in Q2, the driver Toro Rosso still having to carry out a penalty following an old engine change. But the Russian was more efficient than Jean-Éric Vergne who only achieved the 16th fastest time after having driven little in testing. The Frenchman finished between his compatriot Romain Grosjean and Sergio Pérez. Pastor Maldonado completes the list.

The Brazilian Grand Prix will be contested from 17 p.m. Paris time.
