Rosberg takes pole at Japanese GP

Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) wins his second pole of the season in qualifying for the Japanese GP at Suzuka after taking advantage of the red flag displayed following the accident Daniil Kvyat (Red Bull). The Russian violently went off the track at the entrance to the Hairpin. The significant damage suffered by the RB11 will force it to from the stands, but the pilot is fine.

Nico Rosberg will start alongside his teammate Lewis Hamilton who missed his first flying lap and was unable to improve his time. Valtteri Bottas (Williams) and Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) will form the second line in front Felipe Massa (Williams) and Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari). Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) is seventh ahead Romain Grosjean (Lotus). Sergio Pérez (Force India) and Daniil Kvyat complete the provisional top ten of the grid.

Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) failed at the gates of Q3 by ranking one tenth behind Romain Grosjean (Lotus), last qualified for the last session. The German, who will have to fall three places following his penalty imposed on Singapore, finished in front Carlos Sainz Jr (Toro Rosso) and Pastor Maldonado (Lotus). Fernando Alonso (McLaren) failed in 14th place ahead Max Verstappen (Toro Rosso) who was unable to take part in Q2 after encountering an electrical problem. The Dutchman finally received a three-place penalty on the grid.

Jenson Button (McLaren) is the first driver eliminated from Q1 after failing two tenths behind his teammate Fernando Alonso. The 2009 world champion had a chance to qualify for the second session, but Max Verstappen's on-track stop prevented the drivers from improving.

The Japanese GP will begin on September 27 from 7 a.m. (French time) and can be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr.
