Nico Rosberg has a golden opportunity to close his gap on the Championship leader Lewis Hamilton at the Belgian Grand Prix. The three-time world champion will have to start from the back of the grid after making several Power Unit changes.
The German managed to secure pole at Spa-Francorchamps, but the driver Mercedes only won with a tenth lead over Max Verstappen who will rush to the front line alongside him. The W07 Hybrids indeed seem to suffer from the high temperatures on the Belgian track which complicate tire management.
“We had a difficult start to the weekend, admitted Nico Rosberg at a press conference. We lacked pace in practice and weren't very confident going into qualifying, but we managed to sort out our issues and improve our speed. »
“I am obviously happy to be on pole, but the race will be very complicated in terms of strategies due to the significant damage to the tires. We should see all kinds of strategies. Max will start on super softs, Kimi on softs… It promises to be a complicated race”, warned Nico Rosberg.
