Rosberg on pole after a crazy session in Hungary

The qualifying scenario for the Hungarian Grand Prix will undoubtedly remain one of the highlights of this 2016 season. The arrival of rain largely disrupted the progress of the session this Saturday, initially with a postponement of two restarts from the start of Q1, which ultimately forced the drivers to start at 14:20 p.m., on a wet track.

The first part of qualifying will be marked by four red flags, the first deployed due to poor weather conditions, the other three for road accidents. Marcus Ericsson (Sauber), Felipe Massa (Williams) and Rio Haryanto (Manor).

The rest of the debates will be much less hectic, with a clear improvement in the atmospheric and track conditions, allowing the drivers to put on slick tires in Q2. A change of situation which will cause the loss of Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari), main victim of the second part of the session.

The Finn will not manage to advance to Q3, after having crossed the checkered flag first, and having seen the drivers following him on the track improve little by little. Romain Grosjean (Haas) fails in 11th position, just behind Lewis Hamilton, narrowly qualified for the decisive part of the session.

The crazy scenario of this qualification is not yet over, since if the world champion thought of holding pole position until the last moments of Q3, the Briton was forced, like several drivers, to cut his effort on his last attempt after the spin of Fernando Alonso (McLaren) and the installation of a yellow flag.

Nico Rosberg will however improve and take pole on his last lap. A result which took time to be confirmed since the yellow flags still seemed to be deployed as the road passed. Mercedes W07 Hybrid n°6. After investigation, the commissioners validated the result at the end of the evening.

Hamilton provisionally takes second place ahead of both Red Bull RB12 Daniel Ricciardo et Max Verstappen. Sebastian Vettel was in difficulty again this Saturday and only achieved the fifth fastest time at the wheel of his Ferrari SF16-H.

The Spaniards Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso) and Fernando Alonso ranked sixth and seventh ahead of Jenson Button (McLaren), Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) and Valtteri Bottas (Williams).

The Hungarian Grand Prix will start tomorrow at 14 p.m. and can be followed live on our website.
