Rosberg: “Leaving was a great opportunity”

Nico Rosberg's joy after the finish of the Italian Grand Prix said a lot about the driver's state of mind Mercedes. After seeing his teammate Lewis Hamilton dominate qualifying at Monza, the German was certainly prepared to see the Briton sign another success on the Italian track.

Nico Rosberg finally took his first victory at Monza by taking advantage of his teammate's poor start to take the lead of the race and dominate the event until the checkered flag.

“It’s absolutely incredible, it’s a wonderful day for me, commented Nico Rosberg after the race. The departure was a great opportunity and it worked wonderfully. THE Ferrari had more grip with their super soft tires (while the Mercedes were shod with soft compounds), but I was able to keep the advantage. In the end, that’s what gave me the victory. »

Nico Rosberg returned to two points behind Championship leader Lewis Hamilton before heading into the Singapore Grand Prix in two weeks.
