Rosberg explains his controversial pole in Monaco

Nico Rosberg could well lose his pole at the Monaco Grand Prix. The local driver is under investigation by the commissioners after having failed to brake at Mirabeau while he occupied provisional pole in the last qualifying session with a lead of only six hundredths over his teammate Lewis Hamilton. This error would not have been suspicious if his exit had not caused a yellow flag preventing his opponents from improving their times.

The pilot Mercedes obviously assures that his error is unintentional. “I thought it was over when it happened because the track had gotten better and I thought someone was going to beat me. I'm still happy to be on pole because this result is fantastic at home.", declared the German at a press conference before knowing that his pole was threatened. “I feel sorry for Lewis. I didn't know exactly where he was but I saw him appear when I turned around. Obviously, it's not great but that's how it is. »

Nico Rosberg insisted he did his best to maintain control of his W05 in the face of media pressure asking him to explain the error in more detail. “I just locked the front wheel, I don’t remember which one, and it took me off the line. I tried to stay there anyway but I had to pull the wheel at the last moment because otherwise I was going to hit the rail. It was fair but I was able to take the loophole. »
