Liberty Media works actively with the FIA and the teams involved in F1 in order to establish new engine regulations which should come into force in 2021. According to the first bases revealed, a V6 turbo / hybrid block should remain in place, but with only the MGU-K as energy recuperator, the MGU-H falling by the wayside.
A simplification and a desire to reduce costs which should also allow F1 to become attractive again for manufacturers. Ross Brawn, Motor Sports director of Liberty Media, makes no secret of wanting to see big names answer the call.
« There are several leading manufacturers I would like in Formula 1, admits Brawn, in an interview with Sport Bild. Porsche en fait partie, mais aussi Aston Martin and Lamborghini. This is why we must create an environment to attract them.
More precisely, it is mainly about the very complicated engine block.. I guarantee you: with today's engine, no manufacturer is interested. That's why we need to make it cheaper and simpler. »
Aston Martin, already linked to Red Bull Racing, will become title sponsor of the Milton Keynes team in 2018, and Andy Palmer, director of the British brand, does not hide the fact that the prospects of the next regulation remain interesting for Gaydon.
Porsche, which left endurance at the end of 2017, will before that turn to Formula e, while Lamborghini has a main program in GT, notably with its Huracán GT3 / Super Trofeo.
