Ross Brawn, the Motor Sports director recruited by the new owners of the F1 Liberty Media, discussed some ideas regarding the future of the discipline. The former owner of Brawn GP notably recognized that he would like to see future single-seaters able to surpass themselves without help from DRS while he is currently working on the future regulations which will be put in place in 2021.
“I hope that the cars we develop will no longer need DRS, but that won't happen in the near future, commented Ross Brawn in Business Life. Before we can improve racing, we must already fully understand what is happening. We can follow our instincts, but that's not enough when you think about the level of complexity we have with our cars. Speed plays an important role and our audience wants to admire the fastest cars, but you will have to be willing to sacrifice a little speed if you want to make the races more exciting. »
The Liberty Media advisor also looked at the calendar of the ever-expanding discipline, at a time when the new owners are evaluating the candidacy of several countries to strengthen the program in future seasons.
“The most important thing is the quality of the race. Simply adding tests does not add value, has he said. But if we can offer great events in beautiful destinations around the world, we should consider that. I would love to see some sort of event league in the future where we have a list of applicants from the best circuits in the world and promoters waiting to be welcomed into F1. If an event does not work, it would be relegated in favor of another. »
