At the microphone of Canal + in the mixed zone, the Mercedes driver explained that he had to “making sure [Zhou] was okay. » “I hope no one in the audience was hit” he added. A very nice gesture from the vice-president of the GPDA.

George Russell then detailed his views regarding the start of the British Grand Prix. “We started with the hard tires because I made a mistake in qualifying. We thought this risk would give us the best chance for the rest of the race, but there was very little grip at the start, explained the ex-pilot Williams. It was the hardest compound, it was cold and I was passed by all the cars. Then I got hit, I was on Zhou's side, and it was over. »

Russell wanted to race again

The Briton, who retired for the first time this season at home in England, returned to action following the accident. “I jumped out of the car to see if Zhou was okay. I saw there was a red flag right away, but when I got back to the car I couldn't get it to start for some reason. So I rushed to the radio to check. »

George Russell was not allowed to re-run the race since his car was being evacuated by the commissioners. “It was obviously frustrating for my race because the car just had a puncture. There's no doubt we had the pace to get back to 6th place today, but I'm just happy Zhou is OK. »
