Si Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Lando Norris (McLaren) livened up the end of qualifying by only finishing with a gap of 48 thousandths, George Russell (Williams) also stood out this Saturday at the Red Bull Ring.

The young Englishman actually got out of Q2 for the first time in his career with the Grove team later finishing 9th in this qualifying session (8th following Vettel's penalty), a first for Williams since 2018.

« It was like pole position for us, savored the main person concerned in front of the press. Being in Q3 is one thing, doing it in mediums is impressive. We are obviously very happy after this session. Managing to qualify in the Top 10 and with the mediums is like taking pole practically ».

In addition to his qualification in Q3, George Russell impressed the gallery since he achieved it with the medium tires where several drivers like Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) have failed.

« We didn't want to end up there with the soft tires. We are now in a very good position (in preparation for the race). The AlphaTauri in front of us are on soft just like Lance stroll. We think this compound will be disastrous in racing unless they have a solution. Mediums offer us more flexibility on strategy ».

Happy to be among the Top 10, the King's Lynn native does not prefer to get wet in preparation for the race. “ My goal is always to finish as high as possible in the rankings ". It's his turn now.
