Russell and Hamilton steal the show from Norris: the Mercedes explosion at Silverstone

While the British public at Silverstone had prepared themselves for a pole from Lando Norris and the third episode of his fight with Max Verstappen, it was ultimately the Mercedes drivers who appeared in the middle of nowhere and who will try to place the Union Jack at the top of the podium on Sunday.

It was not April 23 (an English national holiday) but it was indeed St. George's Day. The new British government, newly installed in power this Thursday, has undoubtedly found its first symbolic task: to make July 6 the new national holiday for the English. With a successful hat-trick in qualifying in front of a crowd of locals who screamed every time one of their compatriots crossed the line, the British delighted at home, signing a hat-trick not seen in qualifying since 1968.

The many caps McLaren around the circuit said a lot about the identity of the little darling of English fans
