Russell impressed by Hamilton's technical abilities

George Russell has had a brilliant start to the season, without the slightest finish outside the top 5, and largely dominates Lewis Hamilton in the drivers ranking. A necessarily surprising state of affairs when we know that the kid from Tydd St Giles is discovering a competitive environment in Formula 1 since his arrival at Mercedes and after three seasons with Williams. However, the young Briton is not resting on his laurels and does not intend to let himself be lulled to sleep by the heady smell of success which has been tickling his nostrils for several weeks. Even though he dominates Hamilton at the moment, George knows he has everything to learn from his teammate. 

“I think that from a personal point of view, it’s not a bad start to the season indeed”, he slipped recently. But there is definitely room to do better in certain aspects. I think I'm in a privileged situation, being able to be Lewis' teammate. I learn so much alongside him, about his way of doing things, of collaborating with his engineers, of extracting all the motivation from the team… and it’s very, very inspiring” he paid him homage. 

Even more than the driving qualities and the unfailing mentality of the seven-time world champion, Russell was also struck by other qualities in his teammate, which he did not hesitate to reveal in broad daylight. “On a technical level it is very impressive, which most people may not know, or recognize or appreciate.”. This weekend, less than two hours from the village where he grew up, Russell will be treated to his first British walkabout of the season in the lair of Silverstone. With a fourth podium at stake?
