Russell penalized by 5 places on the Silverstone grid

Author of another good performance in qualifying this Saturday at Silverstone, George Russell will however start the British Grand Prix from the back of the grid.

Author of the 15th time, synonymous with 3rd appearance in Q2 in a row, the driver Williams will indeed have to move back 5 places for not having respected a double yellow flag in Q1.

Ironically, this double yellow flag was caused by a spin by his teammate Nicholas latifi during the final seconds of the opening segment of the qualifying session. Summoned after the session, Russell claimed to have taken his foot off after seeing a yellow flag in his peripheral vision at turn 7.

The former champion of Formula 2 also believed that there was only one flag brandished and not two, a sign of greater danger. Williams did warn his driver via the radio, without ordering him to abort his flying lap... which turned out to be his best effort in Q1.

Despite Russell's explanations, the latter received a heavier penalty than Lewis Hamilton in Austria (3 places on the grid) as it was a double yellow flag was violated. The Williams driver also loses 3 points on his license.
