A misfortune that never comes alone, George Russell will not be able to participate in the second free practice session of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix this Friday afternoon. The British driver was the victim of an improbable accident in FP1 when a poorly fixed manhole cover tore off the flat bottom of his Williams.
With more than 300 manholes present on the route in the city of Baku, the organizers and the FIA decided to definitively interrupt the opening session after just 15 minutes. The comical situation did not stop there since the poor stable Williams had the misfortune of seeing the tow truck which was bringing back the injured FW42 hit a footbridge. Consequence: leak of the hydraulic system of the intervention arm of the towing vehicle, the liquid of which then spilled onto the car below.
Owing to the damage caused by the loose drain cover, #GR63's car will require a chassis change and therefore, due to regulations, he will not be able to run until # FP3 tomorrow. #AzerbaijanGP pic.twitter.com/Jff27JmeWo

The Grove team, which is already having an extremely complicated start to the season due to a reluctant car, confirmed that Russell would have to change his chassis and re-pass the technical checks. The champion of Formula 2 title, ill the day before, will not be able to return to the track before Free Practice 3 on Saturday afternoon.
