At Mercedes, grimace soup is on the menu of the day. The German team is having difficulty digesting the result of the first Grand Prix of the season, in Bahrain. On the Sakhir circuit, the W14s were very far from the mark: 5th and 7th at the finish, respectively for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, the Silver Arrows were not even in the fight for the podium. Worse still: Mercedes seems to have fallen in the hierarchy and only appears as the 4th force in the field.

“No one is going to fight with Red Bull” according to Russell

Above all, the performance of Red Bull disgusted the team Toto wolff, starting with George Russell. “I don’t think anyone is going to fight with them this year.”, declared the Briton at the finish of the Bahrain Grand Prix. According to the young 25-year-old driver, the Milton Keynes single-seaters could establish unchallenged domination in 2023. “I expect them to win every race this season. That's my bet. With the performances they have, I don't see who could challenge them. »

George Russell continues by even assuming that Red Bull did not race at its full capacity on Sunday during the Grand Prix. “Their pace seems lower this weekend than it was in practice, which is a bit strange, he added, thoughtfully. But, you know, they have it easy right now, and they can do whatever they want. They may not always be on pole, because we know that Ferrari is very competitive in qualifying. But when it comes to race pace, I think they are in a very, very strong position. »

Hamilton worried about Mercedes

Total disillusionment also on the side of Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion is worried about Mercedes' decline in the hierarchy, soundly beaten by Aston Martin in Bahrain. “We are the fourth fastest team right now, and the Ferraris and Astons we were fighting against were just faster than us, declared the 38-year-old Briton. We know we are not where we should be. I have to stay positive, keep my head high and continue to push the team. I will be a positive light for them and score as many points as possible. »
