This is THE big performance of this qualifying session and even this season: George Russell will start on the front row tomorrow when the lights go out. He thus equals his best performance in performing a trick. It was during the Sakhir Grand Prix at the wheel of the Mercedes last year.

"I don't know what to say to be honest, exclaims Russell after qualifying. I thought we did a good job getting out of Q1 after yesterday. The mechanics did a superb job today. We were on the track at the right time every time. The car handled really well, I had a lot of confidence behind the wheel. »

At the start of Q3, Lando Norris came off the track violently at the top of Raidillon. This event obviously did not destabilize the Briton.

“I had nothing to lose honestly, admits the British pilot. We were in Q3, which is already abnormal for us. We saved the engine power as much as possible for the last lap. And then I went all out, it was fun! ".

The hardest part now remains for George Russell: to concretize his first line in big points. The native of King's Lynn will perhaps even have the opportunity to take the lead of the race after the long straight towards Les Combes at the start.

“The most important thing is to score points tomorrow, explains Russell. At the start we will try something if we can take the lead, it will be great. I can not wait to be there ". This brings a breath of fresh air to the world of F1
Whether this is a dress rehearsal for George Russell before he steps into a Mercedes next year remains to be seen.
