We take the same and start again. Author of the best time in the first free practice session of the day, Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) doubled the stakes this Friday afternoon at the Sochi Autodrome. On a smoother track, the Scandinavian was able to improve his morning mark with a lap of 1'33"593 compared to 1'34"427 during FP1.

In Russia where he has already won 4 times, Lewis Hamilton still stands up to his Finnish teammate. With a best lap of 1'33"637, the Englishman once again ranks behind Valtter Bottas but is only 44 thousandths behind him while this Friday morning he was just over 2 tenths behind.

Still as regular at the wheel of his AT02, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) continues to perform since he only finished behind the two Mercedes drivers. His end of the session was unfortunately marked by the loss of his front wing after running over the curbs at turn 2 just before the end of practice.

Now condemned from the back of the grid after the installation of the 4th engine of the year aboard his RB16B, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) is only in 6th place, more than a second behind Valtteri Bottas. Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Fernando Alonso (Alpine), Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), author of a small spin without consequences at the start of the session, complete the Top 10.

Another accident in this second session on Friday, that of Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo). The Transalpine driver lost control of his C41 at turn 10 and hit the protective wall, significantly damaging his car. This incident caused a total neutralization of around 10 minutes and EL2 was able to resume with a quarter of an hour to go.
