Treat yourself to a Porsche TAG ex-Prost turbo engine? It's possible !

This block, put up for sale by RM Sotheby's as part of the “The European Sale featuring the Petitjean Collection” lot from June 3 to 11, should sell for between 25 and 000 euros according to estimates. Exaggerated? Wait until you see his history.

The engine was mainly used during private tests carried out by the team McLaren from 1984. Niki Lauda first introduced it before Keke Rosberg and Alain Prost took over the following year.

His competitive debut came during the 1986 Portuguese Grand Prix. The Frenchman, aboard the McLaren MP4/2C, led his car carbon to the second step of the podium at the Estoril circuit, scoring crucial points in his quest for a second world title:

In 1987, engine n°1-34 was given a new lease of life during private tests carried out by Alain Prost and his teammate Stefan Johansson, before “Mr The Professor” used it during the fastest event on the calendar, at Monza (Italy), with a sixth place.

If the statistics leave you unmoved, remember that this Porsche-TAG engine represents the memory of the crazy years of small-displacement turbocharged engines delivering devastating power. Official figures vary but 6 liter V1,5 could take 12 rpm while providing between 000 and 750 horsepower. The engines reserved for qualifying easily reached 1 horsepower!

Fans will, however, be more interested in a more imposing art object, the V10 Tipo 052 engine #146 built for use by Ferrari F2003-GA. Signed by Michael Schumacher, however, it was never seen in Grand Prix, but only in testing. In addition, this example is in reality an assembly of several components manufactured by the Team in 2003.
