When Ferrari announced the signing of the seven-time world champion last February Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz saw his future within the Team darken abruptly. But the Spaniard was quick to bounce back by deciding to join Williams for the 2025 seasonThis choice could surprise more than one: why choose to join a team that finished ninth in the championship after having been part of a team capable of playing for the title?
For Sainz, this is not a demotion, but rather a long-term challenge. "I am more determined than ever to help this team return to the top, he said confidently, Personally, I feel in my place to fight for victories, podiums in Formula 1, I have proven it in the last four years as a [Ferrari] driver. The new recruit of the British team was keen to point out that « Williams also has its place in the fight for the top 5 and the podiums, with the determination and strength that we will show, the objective is that we can fight for these positions in the near future. He remains aware, however, that the coming year risks being complicated, especially in this context of transition with the arrival of new regulations in 2026.
A major challenge for Sainz as well as for Williams
With conviction, the son of El Matador insists: " I think some people don't understand how motivated I am and how much I'm looking forward to this challenge." His first drive of the Williams during the post-season tests already hinted at this involvement. After 146 laps completed and precise technical feedback, Sainz impressed the engineers of his new team. Far from playing the diva or demanding special treatment, the driver leaving the red overalls presented himself as a true technical leader: "It's one of my qualities, to help a team improve its performance and know which directions to follow." He explains.

Even though these are post-GP tests for which caution is required, Sainz's performances nevertheless raise questions regarding those of Albon and Colapinto! To be continued from the 2025 pre-season tests

All the drivers ousted from a top team arrive pumped up in a 2nd tier team, but it often only lasts for a while, the motivation ends up fading just fighting to get into the points. This year Williams has not shown signs of a recovery comparable to that of McLaren for example. Maybe in 2026?
