Sainz Jr: 'The world of F1 can be hostile'

Has the atmosphere within the team changed since the departure of Max Verstappen (early May, just before the start of the Spanish Grand Prix, editor’s note) and the return of Daniil Kvyat?

They have different personalities and characters, so the atmosphere is necessarily a little different... There have also been movements of engineers which have made things move, but I believe that we can be satisfied with the way in which they work...

Did what happened to Kvyat remind you how much F1 could be ruthless?

I didn't need to have this example in front of my eyes to realize that, yes, this world of F1 can be hostile. I always knew that you had to constantly evolve to the top of your skills, otherwise the worst could happen...

Aren't you afraid of finding yourself trapped Faenza since the doors of Red Bull Racing now seem closed for a few seasons?

F1 works well like that. Don't forget that I'm only 22 years old. In terms of career building, my situation is rather enviable. I have a lot of time ahead of me to win Grands Prix and compete for the world crown. Today, they are pilots like Valtteri Bottas ou Nico Hulkenberg who seem somewhat trapped in their stable, not me…
