Sainz Jr prepares for very difficult qualifying

The first day of testing for the Spanish GP will not be unforgettable for the local star Carlos Sainz Jr. The Pilot Renault finished the second practice session only 17th, half a second behind his teammate Nico Hulkenberg also lacking pace since he only finished 13th.

“It was a very difficult day., confirms the son of the double champion WRC. It was complicated to test our developments on the new asphalt while facing the wind. We had to face a lot of problems. We are behind our usual performances, but we expected to be less to our advantage on this circuit. »

The race preparation was further complicated by the strange results obtained with the super soft tires.

“It's hard to have a good feeling on this track. We get results with tires that are quite difficult to analyze. We can be faster on mediums than on softs for example. I also encountered a mechanical problem during my stint on super soft tires,” underlines the Spaniard.

After shining at the Azerbaijan GP held last month in Baku, Carlos Sainz Jr expects to experience a different weekend on Catalan soil.

“Our goal is usually to aim for Q3, but we are preparing for the most difficult qualifying session of the season for us”, confides the Renault driver.
