Where will it leave Carlos Sainz this Sunday for the French Grand Prix? This is one of the questions that animates the paddock before qualifying. Currently the driver Ferrari can only claim 11e place as the best position on the grid. Forced to use a 3e electronic control unit, the Madrilenian in fact exceeded the authorized quota which earned him a penalty of 10 positions.

At Castellet, Carlos Sainz could however go well beyond 11e place on the starting grid. At a press conference on Thursday, the Spaniard suggested that he and the Scuderia had not yet decided whether they were going to build a brand new power unit or not. In Canada, the Italians had played the same game with Charles Leclerc before finally equipping his F1-75 of a new engine forcing it to start from the last line.

Starting from the back of the grid for Sainz?

Very in good shape this Friday where he notably set the best time in EL2 ahead of Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz gave some ideas on his engine situation when debriefing his day. To hear his words, it is a start from the back of the grid that awaits the driver of the No. 55 Ferrari.

« It was clearly a positive Friday, he initially advanced. I didn't do many laps on the short stints with little fuel but every lap was competitive. This shows that we are moving forward and that we are in the right direction. I finally focused on the long stints because I'm not going to fight for pole position given the number of penalties I have. »

However, at this precise moment, Carlos Sainz only had one penalty, the one given for changing his electronic control unit. Will there be others behind? “ We will see, he retorts. I have already taken 10 places on the grid so you can imagine what will happen… » Unless the situation turns around, it is from the back of the grid that Carlos Sainz will start this Sunday.
