It's a new time Alexander albon who reached the final part of the qualifications for WilliamsThe Thai driver will start the Chinese Grand Prix from tenth position this Sunday. In an extremely competitive midfield, the number 23 driver is pleased to have found consistency between his various qualifying runs.
« It's so tight! According to our calculations, the entire middle of the grid fits within one tenth. I am happy to have managed to do correct and clean laps. The wind was gusty during this session and it's easy to make mistakes in these conditions, but I think I was consistent. It's difficult to do that on a tricky circuit like this. I felt like I was in a good rhythm. We made some setup changes today, but there's still a lot to do. I'm happy to get through it, but the race will be tough [on Sunday].
For his garage neighbor, Carlos Sainz, the weather is not looking good. Eliminated in Q2 and fifteenth on the grid, the Spaniard acknowledged that he still has to adapt to his new car. Especially in situations like Saturday, where you have to be able to attack on a flying lap. Like Albon and the entire Williams team, the former driver Ferrari hopes that the setup changes made after the Sprint will allow for better tire management and thus a better position in the race. The Shanghai circuit is very demanding on tires, with its new asphalt.
« As soon as I start to attack, I lose the feeling with the car in some corners and I struggle to improve the total lap time. I'm trying to make the most of it, but the reality is that unfortunately I'm not there yet, especially in the last sector. I know I'll get there eventually with the car, now it's just a matter of shortening the process as much as possible. As for the race, we have made some important changes to the car and we hope to be in better shape than Saturday morning."
