For the fourth time this year, McLaren places its two cars in the top 10 at the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Better yet for the British team, Carlos Sainz offers a second consecutive top 5 after the one achieved in Germany, in the conditions we know.
Two convincing results for Zak Brown's troops, which also allow the British team to consolidate its place as the best of the others in fourth position in the Manufacturers' championship, behind the trio Mercedes - Ferrari - Red Bull.
For his part, Carlos Sainz especially prefers to remember the way in which this fifth place came about. “Today’s result tastes much better than that of Germany, believes the Spaniard.
We fought until the end, especially after the stoppage to give no chance to Pierre Gasly to overtake. We doubled Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly at the start taking the inside line.
I then focused on tire management, and it went well. We kept pace with Ferrari, which is a testament to our speed this weekend. We got ahead of our rivals and it was a race to the checkered flag with a Red Bull in my gearbox. »
It now remains to try to aim even higher for the Sainz – Norris tandem, why not from the Belgian Grand Prix.
