Sainz wants to be Renault's trump card for sixth place

Champion Formula Renault 3.5 in 2014, Carlos Sainz had made the big leap towards F1 within Toro Rosso before returning to the fold of the French manufacturer at the end of 2017. Replacing Jolyon Palmer from the United States, the son of the double world rally champion aims to finish on a good note in Abu Dhabi.

« Of course I want to qualify and finish in the top ten, comments the Spaniard before the final round of the championship. We have clearly had positives at every Grand Prix so far and I want to continue this momentum to finish the year with a smile. »

The Manufacturers ranking as a priority

In addition to the desire to regain points after two events outside the top 10, Carlos Sainz will be at the heart of the fight for sixth place in the Manufacturers' championship. Renault Sport F1 Team is in fact engaged in a fight with Toro Rosso, currently sixth, and Haas.

Six points separate the three teams before Abu Dhabi, and Carlos Sainz counts on a car which he tames better and better to help his employer in this objective. « I left Brazil with a positive mindset as I am starting to feel at home in the car, specifies the Iberian pilot.

It's going to be a close championship fight for sixth place, but we're up for the challenge. There is a lot to learn, but I think we were able to meet the challenge in a positive way.

It was educational for me to arrive at a manufacturer, and there were a lot of things to do due to my arrival during the season. I'm still on a big learning curve with the car so I'm hoping for another step forward in Abu Dhabi. »
