While the Brazilian Grand Prix is annotated with the mention “subject to approval” on the 2017 calendar of the F1, the city of Sao Paulo plans to privatize the Interlagos circuit which has hosted the discipline for 26 years.
It was the new mayor of the city, Joao Doria Jr, who expressed this desire in an interview with the Globo TV channel.
“We will privatize the circuit and track of karting. The budget previously devoted to the circuit will be transferred to other activities such as health services or education, he explained. We want to keep F1 and other activities here and organize other events, but it will be a private company that will take care of the management and investments instead of the state. »
The Interlagos circuit achievedmajor works in 2014 to update its paddock and track at a cost of around 58 million euros.
