Sauber is looking for its drivers

Peter Sauber will be able to get to work. Recently, the former team manager admitted his frustration at not being able to contact any driver due to the uncertainty surrounding the team structure.Hinwil, dropped by BMW and taken over by Qadbak Investments. Ultimately, the investment fund did not do the trick and it was Peter Sauber who took over the team in order to ensure the future of the team. And, even if the FIA has not yet validated the participation of the Sauber team in the next world championship of Formula 1, the Swiss will be able to seek to compose his driver duo for next season.

Several names are coming back to strengthen a structure which will have to reduce the size in terms of personnel. Jarno Trulli, Nick Heidfeld, Kamui Kobayashi, Christian Klien or even Heikki Kovalainen would be approached to drive the Sauber-Ferrari in 2010. Logic would dictate that Nick Heidfeld, present this season under the BMW banner, is the best candidate for his own succession. But the German driver, uncertain about the future of his team, has been in contact for several weeks with other teams, as did his former teammate, Robert Kubica, who left for Renault.

But Peter Sauber would have two favorite names for the next season. Pedro de la Rosa, who definitely seems to interest a lot of people, could use his experience as the number one asset to inherit a seat. The Hinwil boss is also thinking of a younger driver, less experienced, but more financially supported in terms of sponsorship. According to Blick, Vitaly Petrov could bring 1 to 7 million euros into the team in the form of sponsors. “ If we took Petrov, the Russian market should open to us in 2011. This is worth thinking about. », attests Peter Sauber in the columns of Blick, who specifies that Sauber should have chosen its two drivers before Christmas.
