Sauber F1 with Russia, Sirotkin well placed for 2014

Clean F1 Team was actively looking for a solid partner to ensure its future in motorsport, the Swiss team suffering from serious financial problems. Hinwil finally found a solution by joining forces with Russian investment funds who want to ensure the promotion of the arrival of F1 in Sochi from next year. Sauber has therefore entered into an agreement with the International Investment Cooperation Fund, the National Development Fund of the Russian Federation North-West and the National Institute of Aviation Technologies.

Russia also wants to ensure the future of its young pilots. Sauber F1 Team adds that development program will be put in place for Sergey Sirotkin “in order to prepare him to become a racing driver in 2014”. Following the withdrawal of Vitaly Petrov, the Muscovite could therefore be the national representative of the country which will host F1 for the first time next year. However, the resident of the ISR team which competes in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series (podium at Motorland-Aragon and eighth position in the Championship) is only 17 years old and has only played three seasons in car. After a stint in Formula Abarth in 2010, the young hopeful from Russia won the title the following year in the Formula Abarth European Series. Last year, he distinguished himself with a victory in F3 Italian European Series and two successes in Auto GP.
