Schumacher hopes for rain despite everything

Michael Schumacher thinks he has a good car at the Hungaroring even if the seven-time world champion was cooled by his exit from the track when the rain started to fall in the second session. The Mercedes driver nevertheless hopes to benefit from his experience in the rainy conditions.

Schumacher hopes for rain despite everything

Michael Schumacher ends the day on Friday credited with the tenth time just over a second behind the reference time established by Lewis Hamilton (1'21"995). Like the other drivers, the seven-time world champion was only able to enjoy a dry track for the first part of the afternoon before a downpour began to fall on the Hungarian Tourniquet. The German then put on the intermediate tires to carry out a stint on the wet track, but the driver Mercedes was trapped entering turn 11 and ended his race in the tire wall. He remains confident for the rest of the weekend, hoping to take advantage of the situation if the weather gets involved.

“We had two normal sessions, except for my slight accident with the tires this afternoon”, comments the Mercedes driver who remains in two consecutive seventh places at Silverstone and Hockenheim. “I just locked the wheels and went off the road. I tore off the front wing when hitting the tire wall but nothing else appears damaged on my car. This type of accident happens when a downpour suddenly falls on a dry track. The car has looked good so far and we will now look at the data for qualifying and the race. Rain could clearly be an opportunity but I'm not sure of anything regarding the weather forecast. »
